strongboi and their one thing
When I was scouring the interwebs for new music, I listened to a bunch of really great songs but more well-known acts, but when I hit play on ‘one thing' by strongboi, I immediately felt moved by it.
I had to do some digging into who they were because I was none the wiser.
They're a group based out of Berlin, with the main members being Alice Phoebe Lou and Ziv Yamin. What started out as a lo-fi passion project that would primarily consist of casio keyboards and toy instruments, grew into something much cooler over time. Infusing disco, jazz and other influences into their unique blend, and I gotta say, it was refreshing.
Their latest single, ‘one thing’ kicks off with drum fill that drops you into some easygoing keys that are soaked in nostalgia. Once the vocal and opening line come in, the melody and tone lean into that mood even more.
It's reminiscent of a soundtrack that would fit perfectly with a road trip in the 60s, so it’s hard not to feel transported to a time I wasn't even alive for, but yet felt so familiar with through their intentional instrumentation and vocal production.
So, if you are in the market for some easy-listening tunes today and want to try something new, ‘one thing’ comes to mind right away.
